Visit us on the national holiday of October 28

On October 28. 2023, the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic will open the Military Central Archive (Barracks on November 17 in Prague 6 – Ruzyně) to interested members of the public as part of the celebration of the Day of Independence of Czechoslovakia.

The Military Central Archive (VÚA) open day will be held for the first time since the archive moved from the Karlín Invalidovna in 2014. Those interested in military history will be able to see unique archives mapping the end of Austria-Hungary, the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic. legions and the military history of Czechoslovakia from 1918 to the present. Furthermore, exhibitions will be installed on the history of the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic, the VÚA itself, posters with the theme of the army of the First Republic or archival cultural monuments. We will demonstrate the digitization workplace, the restoration workshop and the archive warehouse with a stored personnel agenda.

The open day will be held on October 28, 2023 from 09:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Due to the small space conditions in the archive building itself, those interested in the tour must arrive for the tour no later than 1:00 p.m. After this hour, interested parties will not be allowed into the archive building.

Since the entire VÚA facility is subject to a certain degree of secrecy, it will be necessary to register visitors by filling in personal data and an identification card number. Therefore, we draw your attention to the fact that anyone who wants to see the archive building must undergo this procedure, which is imposed on us by Act No. 412/2005 Coll., on the protection of classified information and personal capacity.
